Maxillomandibular advancement surgery has been recognized as the most effective surgery for bringing the upper and lower jaw forward to treat sleep apnea, as documented by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the American Association of Orthodontists’ white paper in 2019.
However, not every patient qualifies for this highly technical and complex surgery. The DAME lower jaw expansion technology can predictably increase the lower jaw length by 2-5 mm. This approach, in combination with MAPES (Microimplant-Assisted Protraction Expansion Surgery) technology in the upper jaw, developed by Dr. Yousefian and his surgical team, can work as mini-MMA for patients who cannot and do not want to proceed with MMA surgery. In this approach, the upper jaw can be expanded skeletally, exiting 10 mm wider and advancing up to 5 mm.

Upper jaw expansion and advancement in growing patients
Growing patients with upper jaw deficiency suffer from an upper jaw that is narrower and further back than the lower jaw. In such situations, expansion of the upper jaw alone can retract the upper teeth even further. The MAPE (Microimplant-Assisted Protraction Expansion) procedure, requiring no surgery and facemask, can overcome this condition and grow the upper jaw.
